It was the tenth race of the 2001 FIA Formula One World Championship and the 87th French Grand Prix. The 72-lap race was won by Michael Schumacher, driving a Ferrari, after starting from second position. Schumacher's brother Ralf finished second in a Williams-BMW, having started from pole position, while Rubens Barrichello finished third in the other Ferrari.
